Today was Ryan's 1st trip to the dentist. I scheduled Ryan's appointment with mine at The Summit Family Dentist. The Summit is wonderful and the people are amazing! I hated my trips to the dentist until I started going there. They make you feel comfortable and happy about getting your teeth cleaned, if you can imagine that. Anyway... I got to go first so that Ryan could see what was going to happen when it was his turn. Ryan looked nervous, real nervous almost green to be exact! Alyson, the dental hygentist layed me back in the chair and explained everything to Ryan. When Alyson had looked over my teeth and it was time to clean them, Ryan finally said to me, "Mom are you going to be ok?" I assured him I was fine and then I was done and it was his turn. He climbed slowly in the chair and Alyson gave him a ride, moving the chair up and down and moving the seat back and forth. She then gave him some sunglasses and explained that the light was bright. He put on the glasses and thought that he was so cool because Mommy didn't get to wear them! Alyson took a look at his teeth and said that they looked great and then Doctor Mike looked too! He counted Ryan's teeth and told him he had twenty, ten on top and ten on the bottom. Doctor Mike made a joke and then left, Ryan liked him. It was finally time to clean Ryan's teeth. Alyson read off the kind of polish that he could have and Ryan settled on the bubble gum flavor (Mommy chose Mint Chocolate). Ryan did so good that even Alyson commented on how well he did and said that even children older then Ryan don't always behave as well as Ryan! Way to go Ryan! So Ryan got to pick a new toothbrush (And Ryan even talked Alyson into giving him one for his Daddy)! Then Ryan got a little sand timer to make sure he always brushes his teeth for 2 minutes and then he got a green tooth pencil and got to pick three prizes out of the prize machine! Wow! Ryan had fun and said that he likes to go to the dentist! I am so glad that he had a good experience for his first visit to the dentist and I hope that all his future appointments always go so well! We shall see, we have an appointment August 17th! Great job Ryan Joseph!
